Five years ago, "healthcare chatbot" meant a widget in the bottom-right corner of your website. A patient clicked it, a scripted flow asked a few questions, the chatbot either answered from a canned set of responses or handed the conversation to a human.

The category was, to be honest, mostly useless. Most practices turned the widget off within six months because the conversations did not lead anywhere useful and the engineering to make them actually conversational cost more than the booked patients they produced.

Handle nuanced clinical conversations. A chatbot telling a worried patient "that does not sound normal, please book an appointment" is much weaker than a trained nurse saying the same thing with appropriate tone.

  1. Run the ChatGPT visibility test monthly. Ask ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Claude "best [your specialty] in [your city]" and "who should I see for [condition you treat]." Record whether your practice is mentioned, in what position, and what the model says about you. This is your baseline.
